Chlorine purificn. by compression. liquefaction and re-vaporisation - using inert heat exchange medium, pref. hexa:chlorobutadiene to prevent corrosion

In the purificn. of chlorine gas by compression, liquefaction and revaporisation, the heat of compression and liquefaction is transferred to a heat carrier (I), which is inert towards chlorine, and the heated (I) is used for revaporisation and superheating of the liquefied purified chlorine. (I) is hexachlorobutadiene. Pt. of the heated (I) can be used for heating a stream of raw material. Since (I) is used instead of water, there is no danger of corrosion of steel heat exchangers by chlorine gas leaking into the water side. Also, the use of steam for heating is avoided.
