Cutting rolled foam plastics - involving cooling to rigidify the plastics prior to cutting

A long roll of rolled foam plastics sheet is transversely cut into shorter rolls from which strips can be dispensed by cooling the roll to rigidify to an extend that it does not deform under the cutting pressure. Pref. cooling is effected for a period of 12-16 hrs. at a temp. of -25 degrees C which is sufficient to rigidify it to a hardness of between 10-40 on the Shore OO scale. Large dia. rolls can be easily cut. The invention is of partic. use in cutting a roll of adhesive coated paper backed foam PVC strip.
