A vehicle tipper discharge door (10) is held closed by a mechanism (12) which includes a retaining member (14) in the form of a bell-crank lever which is actuated to release the door (10) upon elevation of the vehicle body (1). Closure and locking of the door (10) upon descent of the body (1) is effected automatically by interaction between a stop (30) and a further bell-crank lever (26).
