<p>A fire extinguisher consists of a cylindrical bottle, pref. made of Al, with a narrow neck in which a valve seat is machined. The valve body is screwed to the neck and includes a valve stem around which a spring urges the valve disc, contg. a PTFE insert, against the valve seat. The spring allows the valve to open in case of excessive internal pressure. A handle can be depressed to lift the valve stem by lever action. A plastic or nonferrous metal cap encloses the neck and valve and has a slot for the handle. This combines the function of a manually operated valve with that of a safety valve and prevents bursting of the bottle.</p> |
