The cylindrical or conical mixing screw of an upright screw mixer is surrounded by an axially divided shell tube whose parts (3a, 3b) can be displaced on slide rails (5) in order to clean the screw (2) and the tube interior. Traction elements (8) which act on the shell tube parts (3a, 3b) are linked to the cover (10) of the screw mixer via force cylinders (9) and pivot bearings (11). The lower bearing (12) of the screw (2) is designed as a thrust bearing and has various bores for the supply and discharge of lubricant. The invention permits simple, manual cleaning of the parts coming into contact with the material being mixed. <IMAGE>
