Moulds for the prodn. of moulded elements of prefoamed plastic granules, specially for use with expansible polystyrene foam, are prepd. by electroplating on a pattern with a surface which has been made conductive. The metal used is pref. copper or nickel or their alloys, and the wall thickness is 2-3 mm. Where holes or slots are to be left, the pattern is coated with wax. This replaces the conventional 8-14 mm thick aluminium moulds and saves machining time. The mould surface is smoother than a machined surface and does not corrode like aluminium. |
