PURPOSE:To obtain type I and II interferons in high yield, by reacting interferon inducers of the types with a liquid comprising suspended human leukocytes. CONSTITUTION:A liquid comprising suspended human leukocytes is reacted with a type I interferon inducer, e.g. Sendai virus, Newcastle disease virus, virus of double helix RNA or nucleic acid, and a type II inducer, e.g. phytohemagglutinin or concanavalin A known as lectin, a mitogen such as pokeweed mitogen, or immune activator such as tuberculin or Maruyama vaccine, to give interferous, which are isolated and purified to form type I interferon (another name: classical interferon), and type II interferon (another name: immune-induced interferon). The yield is 2-20 times or more that in the case of the individual inducer.
