In the device for vacuum-sealing cans 7 each with a lid 8, a lifting device is provided having a plate 13, 33, which from the bottom can be displaced towards a fixed bell 14, 36 that can be pumped out, the plate serving to receive a can 7 already provided with a lid 8. Also provided is a device for raising the lid 8 from the can 7. To enable this device to also seal cans of different sizes without having to modify the working sequence of the device, a piston, which can be actuated by a pressure medium and which is guided in a cylinder 18, is provided as device for raising the lid 8 from the can 7. Adapters can furthermore be detachably fitted both to the piston 20 and to the inner wall of the bell 14. <IMAGE>
