Apparatus is provided for suppressing radio frequency interference radiation at a circuit connection point (122). The apparatus includes a capacitor (130) having first (136) and second (138) terminals, the first of which is coupled to a substantially planar plate (132) of the capacitor. The first terminal is coupled to the circuit connection point (122). The second capacitor terminal (138) is coupled to a point of reference potential for radio frequencies. The capacitor (130) is oriented when mounted so that the planar plate is opposed and substantially parallel to a metallic surface (20) which is at the radio frequency reference potential (e.g., ground). The capacitor (130) suppresses RFI radiation from the circuit connection point (122) by conducting a portion of the RFI energy at point to the point of RFI reference potential. A second portion of the RFI energy at the circuit connection point is radiated from the planar plate (132) of the capacitor (130) to the opposed metallic surface (20) and is narrowly confined to the area between them.
