Oil or gas filled housing protector - initiates detonator firing by sensing arc current or pressure rise

Elimination of risk of porcelain splitting by overpressure caused by an arc in the oil or gas filled measuring transformer housing is ensured by a controlled explosion. The latter is carried out with detonator wire (3) ignited by the current flowing through the h.v. electrode and sensed by a current transformer (4) at the head or foot of the housing. The triggering can also be achieved by using a pressure transducer.
