Warp beaming machine has the reed mounted between the beam and the warp guide roller nearest the beam in such a way that it can alter its position to maintain a constant orientation with respect to the warp sheet as the dia. of the warp-beam increases. Reed is attached to swinging levers which are mounted on the axis of the guide roller and slowly rotate around the axis during the building of the beam, under the control of a photoelectric warp-sheet position sensor. Placing the reed behind the guide roller separates and reorders the yarns immediately before they are wound, giving better let-off by minimising any possibility of disturbance of the yarns as they are wound.
