APPATURUS AND METHOD FOR REDUCING HANDOFF LATENCY IN BORADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for reducing handover delay in a broadband wireless access communication system are provided to reduce delay in performing FBSS(Fast Base Station Switching) handover by removing a process for sharing a packet number between base stations. A data processing unit(1209) analyzes a received message and data, provides analysis results to a controller(1211), and decodes the data by using a received TEK(Traffic Encryption Key). A TEK management unit(1213) provides a new TEK from a BS(Base Station) provided by the data processing unit(1209) and a new TEK generated according to an instruction of the controller(1211) to a data generating unit(1215) and the data processing unit(1209) so as to be used after handover. The data generating unit(1215) encrypts data by using the TEK provided by the TEK management unit(1213) and transmits the encrypted data.
