PURPOSE:To increase strength and to improve heat conductivity by forming at least the outermost layers, of the compound super-conducting coils constituting a super- conducting magnet, with a non-magnetic composite metal body which is formed by dispersing discontinuously non-super-conducting compound fibers in a non-magnetic metal matrix. CONSTITUTION:Composite wire 2, which is formed a compound super-conductor by diffusion reaction, is wound on winding frame 1, made of stainless steel. At least its outermost layer is forned by winding non-magnetic composite metal wire 4, which is made by dispersing discontinuously non-super-conducting fibers in a non- magnetic metal matrix. Here, compound fibers means fibers that exhibit no super- conductivity. Subsequently, by operating high temperature heat treatment, a compound super-conductor and a non-super-conducting compound are produced simultaneously. By this, the thermal contraction is reduced to about 1/3 compared with ordinary metals, noise of winding shift at each excitation is eliminated, and the coil is stabilized. |
