Washfast pigmented glass fibers were obtained without silane coupling agents by treating the fiber with a pigment compn. contg. a self-curing polymeric binder based on a quaternary ammonium salt copolymer manufd. from epichlorohydrin(I) and an unsatd. amine salt. Glycidy1[2-(methacryloyloxy)-ethy1 -dimethylammoniumch loride(II) was prepd. from 168.8g dimethylaminoethy1 methacrylate and 92.5g I after heating 3hr at 50≦̸C in an aq. soln. contg. HNO3II was polymd. with ethyl acrylate in presence of appropriate additives to copolymer.=D11=E
