PURPOSE:To remove a sulfur-containing compound from grains, by bringing the grains into contact with a heated alcohol vapor. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol is heated and vaporized in a boiler, and the vapor is brought into contact with grains, e.g. old rice, in a closed vessel, permeated into the grains, and condensed. The permeation of the alcohol is accelerated by the heat generation of the grains to extract a sulfur-containing compound, e.g. dimethyl sulfide. Alternatively, a small amount of an alcohol is added to grains in a closed vessel, and alcohol vapor is brought into contact with the grains under heat and pressure. |
