Acid which is passed through the cation exchanger column of a water deminateralisation plant for regeneration is passed in the same tank as the alkaline soln., passed for regeneration through the anion exchanger column. Acid is always held at a sufficient level to ensure a slightly acid mixt. in tank. Pump circulates the mixt. around the tank and through a final pass-through neutralisation tank, contg. a basic material such as MgO. This is a simple and inexpensive plant for the regeneration of both ion exchangers. It eliminates the long neutralisation times and requires only low-cost materials (MgO).
