PURPOSE:To permit a variety of printing modes to be realized using the same character data by providing a means to control the diameter of ink particles to be ejected and a means to store data which specifies an optimum ink particle diameter when characters or figures are printed, and further, providing a means to control the diameter of ink particles to be ejected and a means to perform the control in accordance with particle diameter data containing character pattern data or to make the diameter of ink particles variable from the outside. CONSTITUTION:The characters of a dot matrix printer are composed of individual dots, and a data storage region 2 which specifies an optimum particle diameter is provided in addition to the character pattern data 1. This data enables particle control. Consequently, if the printing of a fine Gothic character is desired, for instance, the best-suited size of dots of the character is used. In the meantime, the same character data is used and the diameter of the particles is increased if the printing of a bold Gothic character is desired. In addition, the diameters of the particles can be varied by using mechanical or electric means 3 from the outside or a printing control command. Along the these methods, character pattern data can be processed 5 using various decorative techniques and the particle diameter can be controlled even in the decorative processing. |
