<p>The modular gusset (1) may be used to make welded connections between shallow co-planar 'U' section channels. It has a pentagonal plan shape and a continuous right angled edge return (2-6). The corner angles (C, E) subtend 45 deg., (D) 90 deg., (E) and 135 deg., (A, B, C). The base is stiffened by diagonal ribs (8, 9). Additional stiffening and weight reduction may be provided by base holes (10) with returned edges. Stiffeners (11) may be provided between the base (7) and the edge returns, and the gusset may be fabricated by stamping or moulding. In a 'T' joint two gussets may have welded edges (3, 6) abutting in the bar, leaving a right angled inlet for the corresponding corner (E) of a third gusset. This is welded into the leg end and the abutting sides of the three gussets are welded together to complete the joint.</p> |
