<p>This kinetic energy absorber device relates mainly to the absorption of high energy shocks which result from the collision of obstacles by all kinds of moving bodies of vehicles. This device is comprised of an undeformable male penetrator (29) and a ductile metal receiver female part (27). One of these two members is integral with the moving body whereas the other one is subjected to the action of the obstacle which is opposed to the motion of the moving body. Under the shock effect, the penetrator is engaged into the female part that is deformed plastically. It is this plastic deformation work which absorbs the major part of the kinetic energy. The female part is made preferably of austenitic steel with unstable austenite. This device allows particularly the absorption of violent shocks by motor vehicles. </p> |
