Utilising two diametrically opposed adjustable jack-actuated pistons, the device is used to block off a feed pipe by a crushing of the pipe walls. An applicn. is in the isolation of a nuclear reactor from a high temp. gas feed. The device also supports the crushed pipe length and seals same within a housing. In addn. the unit may be equipped to cool the crushed length, to drain off escaped gases, and to inject a coagulant which seals pipe barrel fractures. Details may provide for a two part housing which is secured on the subject pipe length to contain same within a sealed vol. Each part includes a bore for a jack-actuated piston, each bore being sealed by a bellows type gaiter surrounding the piston rod. Two bars may apply piston thrust, being bolted together once crushing is effected.
