PURPOSE:To make possible the rapid manufacture of slabs of various sizes, by arranging two vertical rolling mills possessing the caliber for executing the edging pass at least on one side of the front or behind of the horizontal mill for giving the reduction in the direction of thickness to the slab. CONSTITUTION:In the apparatus for rolling the slab, produced from the continuous casting machine, into a size suitable for the following rolling pass, two vertical mills 2, 3, in which the depth H of the caliber 6 is made larger than the breadth of the dog bone generated by the edging pass, and the height B of the caliber 6 is made fittable to the thickness T of the slab S, are installed on the inlet side of the horizontal mill 1; and similar mills 4, 5, are installed on the outlet side. The slab S is fed through the table 7 into mills; and after the slab S passes mills 4, 5, the direction of rotation of the table 8 and mills is reversed, and the slab S is rolled by mills 5, 4, 1, and next, by mills 4, 5, 5, 4, 1, 3, 2; hereafter, similar rolling passes are several times repeated. Hereby, the product slab of specified breadth can be rapidly manufactured. |
