<p>The variable dia. pulley may be used on variable speed pulley and belt transmissions, utilising two co-axial discs of which the axial interval is modified. Each disc has an inclined internal face defining a groove for a trapezoidal section belt, one (5) being incorporated on a hollow input shaft (2), the other (7) on a sliding sleeve (6). Round section pins (10) slide in blind bores (9) to guide the sleeve (6) relative to the shaft (2), being fixed to a keyed (13) ring (12). A co-axial two piece (16, 23) telescopic sleeve surmounts the assembly (2, 6), using bearing cages (15, 25) to locate the pieces in the axial sense relative to the shaft (2) and the sleeve (6) respectively. Mechanical devices vary the length of the telescopic sleeve and, thus, the disc (5, 7) inter-axis, and may utilise a reduction motor (19) of which the output pinion (20) meshes with a crown wheel (22).</p> |
