The plant consists of a duct or casing contg. pipes, each pipe being fitted with a row of nozzles employed to spray a dust collecting liq. into the gas flowing through the duct. The duct is employed esp. as a wet dust collector in wet electrostatic filters, venturi gas washers, and gas cooling towers, etc.; and pipes are interchangeable. In the pref. plant, each tube can slide through a sealed housing located on the outside wall of the duct via a valve. The result is that each pipe can be retracted out of the duct for maintenance or replacement of the nozzles and/or pipe while the dust extn. plant is still being used; and the sealed housing prevents the outer air from entering the duct, which may carry gas at high pressure.
