The erection and extension of sections is carried out manually via a hand crank and connected gear unit, on the ladder used for reaching relatively low heights, in fire-fighting. The gear unit (13) is combined with a servo-motor (19), as a unit reinforcing torque moment. The two can form a single structure or the servomotor can be individually mounted on the drive shaft (12), between the hand crank and gear unit. Servomotors for the crank drives (8) may be connected to a hydraulic pump (21) driven by the vehicle engine.
