The fuse contains a body (1) which is filled with quartz sand, contact connections (3) and a fusing conductor (4) which is produced from aluminium or an aluminium alloy. The ratio of the mass of the quartz sand (2) filling the body (1) to the mass of the fuse conductor (4), which is accommodated in this quartz sand (2), consists, for example, of strips (5) and is composed of aluminium or an aluminium alloy, is not less than 40:1. Such a fuse has a high disconnection capability, stable current/time characteristics for its response, increased selectivity and improved strength. <IMAGE>
