The defrosting system warms a car's lock during cold weather to facilitate its opening. A cigarette lighter (1) is used to heat the car door key. A shroud (2) encloses the lighter's flame to protect it from the wind long enough to heat the key. The key is then inserted in the lock so that its heat is transferred to the lock's parts thereby defrosting them. The shroud fits removably to the lighter or is pivoted to it.
