Cultivating mycorrhiza fungi, esp. Boletus edulis - in system with exchange of nutrients and metabolites e.g. across permeable membrane

Method for cultivating mycorhiza fungi comprises regulating the metabolism of the fungi in a cultivator or growth vessel with an exchange-surface system, e.g. permeable membranes or capillaries. The nutrient soln., contg. inorganic and/or organic materials and the metabolites are separately supplied and removed from the container. The fungi are arranged on the exchange-surface system. The nutrient soln. may be recirculated via a reserve tank, or the spent nutrient is collected in a separate tank and not recycled. The compsn. of the nutrient soln. can be altered during the process (e.g. by adding fungicides or bactericides) and the gas atmos. can also be modified with CO2 and/or O2. A growth vessel for this method is also claimed. The method is esp. useful for growing edible mushroom Boletus edulis. The system mimics the natural conditions for this species (which grows on tree roots with exchange of sugars from tree to fungus and of inorganic salts from fungus to tree).
