The carrying hoop or handle comprises two arms (1) connected together by a cross-piece (2) and tube (5, 6) with the lower end of each arm (1) having an eye (3) which contains the adjustable detent catch used for locking the handle in a fixed position. The catch comprises detent gaps (7) set in the eye and concealed from outside by a panel whereupon a toothed (13) disc (9) is designed to engage in the gaps (7). The disc has a guide (10) and a compression spring (11) and is in contact with a second disc (14) which has an attachment (16). The latter engages in the guide (10) of the disc (9) in such a way that the two discs are held fixed in position in the eye by the spring where they form a plane with the outer faces of the eye.
