<p>A novel metal-vapor discharge lamp with excellent color rendering properties is provided by applying a light emitting layer, which contains at least a red emitting phosphor having an emission peak located in the region of 610 to 630 nm wavelength, to the inner surface of a discharge tube, and sealing at least zinc or cadmium in the tube in addition to mercury. The emission spectrum, resulting from effecting discharge in the presence of at least one of the zinc and cadmium metal-vapors, remarkably improves color rendering properties in cooperation with the light emitted from the phosphor. In addition, the lamp can be successfully ignited by a highpressure mercury stabilizer, with its resultant use in interior illumination. </p> |
