A process for washing an electro-magnetic filter comprises feeding the wash liq. at the filter outlet to a storage vessel of vol. greater than that of the wash liquor used. From there it passes during the operation of the filter and at a low rate into an appts. where it is clarified. It is sent from there to the filter for a new washing. The process is partic. applicable to the purge waters from steam generators in nuclear power stations. The invention allows the vol. of wash water which has to be evaporated to be reduced to 1/50 of the amount used in existing procedures. This results in a considerable economy, the evapn. of radioactive water being a costly operation.
