<p>The vehicle bumper housing a foamed plastics shock absorbing block is designed to withstand greater impact forces at the centre than at the outer ends. The block is enclosed between a hollow cross member forming part of the vehicle chassis and a flanged front sheet. The variation in resistance to impact forces can be provided by forming a groove in each end of the block, which is wider at the outer ends than at the inner ends. Alternatively the block has smaller grooves across its top and bottom faces, the outer grooves being larger than the inner grooves.</p> |
