The coil winding (1) consists of a braided wire which consists of a relatively large number of conductor strands which are interleaved with one another in the form of a flexible tube in such a manner that the individual conductor strands change their position on the circumference of the flexible tube to such an extent that they in each case assume every possible position with respect to the flexible tube axis, at least over the length of one turn of the winding in each case. A tube (4) through which a coolant flows is wound with the winding (1), which tube (4) has a flattened profile and consists of a non-magnetic, electrically insulating material. The coil is finally potted, with a potting resin (9), in a vacuum. The invention is suitable for commutating inductors, which can be highly loaded, for converter installations. <IMAGE>
