PURPOSE:To facilitate insertion of a ribbon by automatically widening a gap when the ribbon is replaced by providing a gap adjustment mechanism part which adjusts the gap using a control signal. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon replacement signal 400 is transmitted to a control part 41 when a state where a microswitch case is opened is detected. The con trol part 41 judges whether or not printing is under way by flags and stops printing, if it is in progress. Next, a carriage is moved to a center position so that the ribbon is manually caught easily. After this, a signal 401 is transmit ted to a gap adjustment mechanism part 42. The gap adjustment mechanism part 42 drives a carriage, i.e., a printing head 6 backward according to the signal to widen a platen gap. Later, if a sensor 2 detects a state where the case is closed again, it transmits a signal to the control part 41. The control part 41 drives the printing head forward, and sends a signal 401 for narrowing the gap to the gap adjustment mechanism part 42. |
