Bis-(2,4-diaminophenoxy)-alkanes of formula (I) are new (R is a straight or branched chain 1-12C alkylene). (I) (or their salts with (in)organic acids) are useful as developer components in oxidn. dyes for hair contg. known coupler cpds. In contrast to previous hair dye compsns., (I) give satisfactory colour development with atmospheric oxygen alone, thus avoiding damage to the hair caused by chemical oxidn. agents such as H2O2.
