Coin face value determination in vending machine - is effected by detector system sensing weight and dimensions

The face value of coins in a coin operated machine is determined by a photo electric detector. The detector system differentiates between differen t dimensions and logic circuits sense compatibility of dimensions with the face value of the coin. Coins in automatic vending machines pass along a channel where photosensitive detectors sense different dimensions of each coin. Each detector has a light source comprising a light emitting diode. Detector outputs are passed into logic circuits comprising bistables with gated outputs which sense that dimensions are compatible with face value of coin. The detector system operates in conjunction with sensing of weight of coin.
