PURPOSE:To obtain styrenes in high yield by the oxidative dehydrogenation of a specific alicyclic hydrocarbon in gas phase, using a catalyst containing Sn, Sb, Cu, In and O, thereby inhibiting the formation of side products and CO or CO2. CONSTITUTION:Styrene is obtained by the oxidative dehydrogenation of a six- membered alicyclic hydrocarbon having an alk-1-enyl substituted group of the formula (A is six-membered alicyclic hydrocarbon which may be substituted with C1-4 alkyl; R<1>-R<3> are H or C1-4 alkyl), e.g. vinyl cyclohexane (derivatives), using a catalyst comprising Sn, Sb, Cu, In and O as essential components and more preferably a catalyst comprising the above components and Fe. Said catalyst has high selectivity and esp. a stable catalytic activity. The amount of diluent gas can be minimized, and thus a highly concentrated raw material can be used. The carbon deposition is low, and thus the process can be performed economically in an industrial scale. |
