The skateboard has a support plate for the feet on top of the board. This can pivot in a horizontal plane round an axle so that the user's feet can be in any angular position. The length of the plate is greater than its width but it can be wider than the board. The plate can be circular and can have a brake between the plate and the board. This consists of friction rings adjusted by a locking nut. The plate can be immobilised temporarily by engaging a bolt projecting from the board.
