The prosthetic larynx is for patients who have undergone laryngectomy, having a guide tube and interchangeable internal piece. The latter has an oval segment cut out of it, and there are corresponding perforations in the guide tube. The latter has a flat portion formed on the outside of its bent by stamping, to give a smaller radius. In the front part of this portion is a slot, in which the bead of an inflatable rubber balloon is inserted, its dimensions and expansion rate matching the operative characteristics of the tracheal stump. A rubber sleeve can be slid over the flat portion instead of the balloon.
