Commutator segments or slip-rings are made of steel or aluminium alloy faced with electrodeposited copper. They may be shaped as shown, to be carried on axial insulating dovetail ridges. Alternatively they may be of conventional dovetail form, in which case, they may be fabricated to provide a T-sectioned groove at the top into which the copper part is electro-deposited (Fig. 4, not shown).
