Inlet manifold pressure sensor for IC engine - uses corrugated membrane cell acting on spring plate carrying strain gauges

A sensor measuring press. in gaseous media, esp. for measuring combustion engine inlet manifold press., converts the measured press. into an electrical signal. It is economical to make and highly accurate. It maintains its original linearity between pressure and signal over a long operating life. A corrugated membrane cell (1) is mechanically coupled to the free end (3) of the spring (2) clamped at the other end and carrying a strain gauge (4) on its other side. The spring is a triangular plate spring. For absolute pressure measurement, the sensor is connected only to the manifold, but for differential pressure measurement it is connected to the manifold and to the atmosphere. The manifold pressure may act either on the inside or outside of the cell which is mounted on an adjustable bolt (5) for null point setting.
