A plurality of types of items of time information are optionally displayed on a single display device which contains liquid-crystal display elements (28, 30, 32) having seven display elements. A single seven-segment decoder (72) is connected between the counter (54, 56, 58, 60, 62, 66, 68) of time signals and the display elements (28, 30, 32). A multiplex driver (94) effects the application of a first (58, 60, 62) or a further (54, 56) counter group in time-division multiplex to the decoder (72). A demultiplexer (98) and memory driver arrangements (100, 102, 104) assigned to the display elements are connected between the decoder (72) and the display elements (28, 30, 32). As a result, selected segments of the display elements can be continuously excited, and this is necessary for liquid-crystal display elements. <IMAGE>
