SIGNAL PROCESSING MEANS AND METHOD

The invention provides means and method for adaptively filtering input signals which are made up of pulse signals and noise, and where the pulse signals occur at unknown times and have unknown durations. Received input signals are filtered by a signal filtering means having a controllable filter characteristic and also delivered to a signal analyzing means. The signal analyzing means provides signals to the filter means for controlling the filter characteristic of the filtering means. This results in the delivery of output signals by the filtering means which correspond to the pulse signals of the input signals while minimizing noise signals. The means and method uses orthogonal transformations of the input signals for processing the input signals and adaptively filtering the orthogonal signal components for providing pulse signals present in the input signal with reduction in the noise level.
