A windscreen mounting arrangement for a motor vehicle comprises a plastics and/or rubber extrusion having parts 5 and 6 defining channels 7 and 8. Channel 7 grips the flange 14 surrounding the windscreen opening and the windscreen glass 70 is fitted into the channel 8 a stiffening member 74 being placed in a groove 24. The part 5 has a metal reinforcing carrier 9 which is compressible to a limited extent but substantially inextensible. It therefore resists tension which may be applied to the mounting arrangement during or before fitting. The arrangement is made slightly oversize and then compressed into the opening. This enables the glass 70 to "float" slightly in use, and reduces stretching of the rubber at bends in the windscreen opening. <IMAGE> |
