The turnip harvesting machine has a heading device with a test wheel roller which controls the height of a heading blade with respect to the turnips. A longitudinal conveyor connects with the blades and its support frame, which has bearing points for the heading device is supported on the machine frame by means of a lifting device. The lifting device for the support frame (10) is coupled with a ground sensing device (28) which controls it independent of the machine frame (2) with respect to the ground. The lifting device is a hydraulic cylinder (20) which engages below the support frame (10) and on the machine frame (2).
