1281968 Rolling metallic materials GENERAL MOTORS CORP 22 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 50196/70 Heading B5A An apparatus to be used in combination with a rolling mill for controlling the edges of flatrolled products produced by hot-rolling metal particles, e.g. particles of ferrous metal deposited on a carrier sheet of ferrous metal, comprises two wear block members 20, e.g. of cast iron, each having a convex inner surface, spaced apart by the width of the carrier sheet and adapted to bear against the lateral edges of the sheet as it passes through the bite of the rolls, a slide block 22 attached to each wear block 20 and supported in a carrier block 24 so as to be loaded towards the bite by springs 48, a carriage 26 to support the slide block carrier, the carriage being adjustably supported in a frame 28, and each slide block having at least two guide rollers 40 which engage the rolls 12 of the rolling mill. The carriage 26 is moved into the frame 28 on rollers (36), Fig. 1 (not shown), and additionally supported in the frame on pedestals (38). The sheet (10) is enclosed in a tunnel (14) having a controlled atmosphere as it moves from a preheat furnace and over a wear plate 18 into the bite of the rolls. The blocks 20, 22, and 24 can be formed in one piece. The blocks 20 can be hydraulically or pneumatically loaded towards the bite. The support frame may be disposed on a transport car. |
