Alumina agglomerates are treated for use as catalyst carriers by either impregnating with acid and heating with water in an autoclave to above 100 DEG C. or heating the agglomerates with aqueous acid in an autoclave to above 100 DEG C., and then drying and calcining the product, e.g. at 500-1200 DEG C. Acids exemplified are acetic and nitric. The agglomerates may be heated to less than 1000 DEG C. before being treated with acid. The product may have a surface area of the order of 10 m2/g. |
