The invention comprises the preparation of isoquinoline derivatives of the formulµ wherein R is alkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted by 1 to 3 OH, alkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms and R 1 is alkyl by reacting the appropriate amines with acid halides of the formula RCOX, wherein X is halogen and the novel quinoline derivatives of the formulµ wherein R is a substituted phenyl group containing 1 to 3 OH, alkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, R 1 is alkyl, R 2 is alkyl or phenyl and R 3 represents the groups represented by R and R 2 and acid addition salts thereof. Cis - 5,9,10 - H - 5 - amino - 2 - methyl - decahydroiso quinoline and trans-9,10-t-5-H- 5 - amino - 2 - methyldecahydroisoquinoline are obtained by hydrolysis of the corresponding 5-acetamido compounds. Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for oral or parenteral administration, contain the above novel isoquinoline derivatives and suitable pharmaceutical carriers. The compound are blood pressure lowering agents.
