1,224,755. Polyvinyl chloride. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 1 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967], No. 31255/68. Heading C3P. Polyvinyl chloride is rendered less absorbent while increasing the heat stability by adding to an aqueous suspension of the polymer a watersoluble or -dispersible phosphate of the formula or where R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl or alkyphenyl, n is 1-30 and M is ammonium or metal, preferably alkali metal or alkaline earth metal (in which case the proportion of phosphate to metal is adjusted accordingly) and recovering the polymer particles. Preferably the phosphate is added in an amount of 0À05-5% by weight of polymer to a latex near the end of an emulsion polymerization process. The product gives plastisols of lower viscosity using similar amount of plasticizer compared to an untreated polymer. |
