<p>Fluorine is mixed with uracil in a diluent which dissolves the 5-fluorouracil product to prevent further reaction with the fluorine present. It is carried out in an inert gas atmosphere, esp. N2. Specif. the diluent is acetic acid or HF aq. and reaction temp. is pref. 20-25 degrees C. It is an efficient antimetabolite and can be used for treatment of mammary gland and gastrointestinal cancers; it is also an anti-tumour agent.</p> |
