The electrolytes are obtd. by using the ion- and super-ion-conducting properties of the low- and high-temp. modifications of the ternary chlorides: Li2FeCl3; Li2MgCl4; Li2MnCl4; and Li2CdCl4. The electrolytes are claimed for use in electrochemical cells such as fuel cells; accumulators; batteries such as lithium:chalcogenide batteries; and other galvanic cells. Further solid electrolytes conducting Li ions are the halide spinels Li2FeCl4; Li2MgCl4; Li2MnCl4; and Li2CdCl4 and the high temp. modifications of these cpds.
